The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators’ (CoA) chief Vinod Rai asserted the trend of the recent conflict between senior players is subsequently influencing the selection of coaches. It according to him, is nothing new in the Indian cricketing circles.

Moreover, it was very recently revealed that women’s senior coach Tushar Arothe was sacked after his conflict with some of the senior members of the team.

Apparently, the women’s cricketers had differences with his training methods. It included the skipper in the shortest format, Harmanpreet Kaur.

Harmanpreet had also protested against his methods earlier. This is the second time in a short span of time that national coaches have been forced to resign from their respective posts owing to the conflict of interest with top-notch players.

Only last year, Anil Kumble was forced to resign from his post after the public display of conflict between Virat Kohli and Kumble himself. Rai said this has been going on since the Ganguly-Chappell era.

“This has been going since the time of Greg Chappell and Sourav Ganguly. This is nothing new,” Rai was quoted as saying during a meeting.

Despite their good tenure with the respective national teams, the senior coaches Kumble and Arothe did a commendable job.

However, they couldn’t continue because of the influence of some top players. It turned out to be two different leaders who had the say in removing Kumble and Arothe.

However, in the case of Greg Chappell, it was Sourav Ganguly, who faced the axe as a skipper. Chappell had to step down finally after losing the trust of all senior players.

The rift between players and coaches:

Kumble’s resignation came at the wake of some of the reports which claimed of a rift between him and Kohli. The decision came just two days after India lost the final to Pakistan in a humiliating manner in June, 2017.

Kumble has remained silent on that matter and resigned with dignity. However, he had to step down due to an influence of the skipper.

Arothe recently blasted the attitude of the senior cricketers. The office bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) and Technical Committee Chairman Sourav Ganguly will neet in Kolkata on 22nd July – to discuss on the board’s stance of the cricketers being tested for doping.

“We will consider allowing outstation players in various state leagues based on their IPL experience. If they are not regulars in the IPL, it makes sense for them to go ahead and play in state leagues. But if you are an IPL regular and an outstation player, you cannot play. Anyway, a player can take part in a maximum of two leagues,” said the BCCI official.

With the last BCCI SGM being deemed invalid. It remains to be seen whether the CoA headed by Vinod Rai will approve of the scheduled meeting in Kolkata.
