Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has hailed his IPL teammate Rishabh Pant as the biggest finisher in T20 cricket at the moment.  Shaw’s comment came after Pant’s starring display in Delhi Capitals‘ impressive 6-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Monday.

Asked to bat first, Royals were off to a disastrous start with Sanju Samson getting run out in the second over without even facing a ball. However, Ajinkya Rahane stood tall and scored his second century of the IPL and first since 2012 to bail the Royals out of trouble. In the company of skipper Steve Smith, Rahane batted Royals to a position of strength. Rahane scored 105 not out while Smith scored 50 as Royals set Delhi a stiff target of 192.

However, Delhi chased down the total without much trouble. Senior opener Shikhar Dhawan gave Delhi a quick start and departed after slamming 54 from just 27 deliveries.  Delhi lost Shreyas Iyer cheaply but Shaw and Pant batted the Royals out of the game by adding 84 runs for the third wicket.

Pant remained unbeaten on 78 from just 36 deliveries to take his team home in the very final over. The knock contained 6 fours and 4 sixes.

“Rishabh Pant is the biggest finisher of the game in T20s right now, especially for our team,” said Shaw at the post-match press conference.

Shaw further said that Delhi was confident of chasing down the total. With seven wins from 11 games now, Delhi are on the verge of making it to the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

“Definitely, there was a plan. We knew in the powerplay there will be at least one spinner bowling and Shikhar bhai was batting so well in the powerplay, he was in a good flow. Then Jofra Archer, we knew he depends more on short balls and bouncers, so we were prepared,” said Shaw.

Brimming with confidence at the moment, Delhi will be looking to continue their impressive run when they take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday.
