Rishabh Pant’ s success in the longest format of the game has seen him earn a Grade A contract by BCCI, a report in ESPNcricinfo suggests.

The board is yet to announce the contracts for the upcoming season but the report suggests that he is placed in the second category from the top.

The wicketkeeper-batsman saw his stocks going up after making his Test debut in England last year. In three Tests there, he scored 162 runs.

Following that, he was recalled to ODI squad as well and also did well in home Test against West Indies, where he scored runs 184 runs in two innings.

On the tour of Australia, he was the second highest run-scorer in the Test series with 350 runs, that has now seen him making a comeback in the central contract list.

He was a part of the central contact list in 2016/17 season where he was given a Grace C contract.

Last year, he was dropped from the list but has reportedly made a comeback for the upcoming season.

Risabh Pant was originally not a part of the Test plans in 2018.

The unavailability of Wridhiman Saha following a shoulder injury left team management with a job to find a wicketkeeper before the start of England tour.

The selectors did not recall Parthiv Patel and gave a chance to Rishabh, who was back up to Dinesh Karthik.

The latter did not do well in the first two Tests and made way for Rishabh for the third game after he got injured during the second Test.

The youngster capitalised on the opportunity and has earned a contract on the boss of his performances over past seven months.

He can certainly find himself in the top bracket next year if he performs well across formats.

As per the updated format that was introduced last year, there are four categories viz A+, A, B and C.

Players in A+ category get Rs 7 Crore per year. They are players who are a part of the Indian team in all formats.

Players in Grade A are given a salary of Rs 5 Crore while players in Grade B get paid Rs 3 Crore.

Those in Grace C get Rs 1 Crore per year. Last year, a total of five players were in A+ Category.

BCCI also took a historic step last year as the board offered central contracts to women cricketers as well.

The trend is expected to continue for the upcoming season.
