The newly-appointed batting coach Vikram Rathour is looking on various aspects of the team batting lineup. The former Indian player asked his boys to understand the line between fearless cricket and carless cricket. During the course, he also spoked about Rishabh Pant, who is failing to make a mark of his own in the shorter formats of the game.

Rishabh Pant may have established himself as the front-runner to succeed MS Dhoni as the regular wicket-keeper for the Indian cricket team but the youngster’s journey has not been without its fair share of criticism. The youngster has come under a lot of fire for his reckless shot selection and the last few matches have not yielded the desired result for Pant.

Vikram Rathour said Pant has unquestionable talent but if he can sort out his shot-selection and decision-making, he will be unstoppable. With the Indian team looking to plan for the upcoming World T20 in Australia, newly-appointed batting coach Vikram Rathour has made it clear that the youngsters coming into the setup have to make sure they are disciplined and not careless in their approach.

A T20I average of just 21.57 does not justify the talent that young Rishabh Pant packs. Since bursting into the international scene two and a half years back, Pant has done little to justify the think-tank’s faith. Prior to his unbeaten 65 in the final tie of the three-match T20I series against West Indies, Pant managed scores of 3, 1 (against Australia), 0 and 4 (against the West Indies).

Rishabh Pant is a phenomenal player – Vikram Rathour

Speaking of the same, Vikram Rathour quoted that the youngsters need to understand that there is a fine difference between playing fearless cricket that filled with intent and careless cricket, which puts the team down.

“All the young guns need to understand that there’s a fine line between fearless cricket and careless cricket. What the team management is asking is fearless cricket — having clear game plans and play with intent, backing your strengths. At the same time, you cannot be careless,” Rathour said on Tuesday.

“Rishabh is a phenomenal player. He needs to sort out his game plan a little more and needs to bring in a little bit of discipline to his cricket,” Vikram Rathour furtherly added to his lines.

Well, the upcoming six games against South Africa will be very crucial for Rishabh Pant, as his performances will decide his fate in the Indian team. With the likes of Samson and Saha pushing for a place, Pant is standing on the piece of thin ice.
