India’s rising star Rishabh Pant has just shown why cricket is called a team game. The youngster faced a heartbreaking snub from India’s World Cup squad. Speculations were rife that Pant would make it to the World Cup squad after the selectors picked him in the team for the series against Australia, India’s last assignment before the mega event. However, Pant failed to grab the opportunity and paid the price.

The MSK Prasad-led selection panel chose the experienced Dinesh Karthik over Pant as MS Dhoni’s backup for the upcoming event. Pant, however, was quick to remind the selectors that they were perhaps wrong to ignore him. He piled pressure on MSK Prasad & Co. with a stupendous show in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The left-handed batsman, who scored a Test century in England and Australia in the last season, amassed 488 runs from 16 matches at an average of 37.53 and with a strike rate of 162.66 for Delhi Capitals. While Prasad had said that Pant missed out on the World Cup selection because of his lack of experience, the youngster showed in the IPL he can deliver under pressure too. But it was too late for consideration as the selectors had already announced the squad.

“Donning the blue for the nation is a feeling nothing else can even come close to ?? Wishing Team India a killer run to the ? Bring it home boys !! Good luck ?? ?? @BCCI #JaiHind”

Meanwhile, the World Cup will start on May 30. India, on the other hand, will start their campaign on June 5 when they take on South Africa.
