Team India opener Rohit Sharma has been an absolute hit after his promotion to the top-order in Test cricket. After two centuries in the first Test, Rohit Sharma produced another scintillating effort with the bat scoring a double hundred against South Africa in Ranchi in the third Test.

The host came into the final match of the tour with the series already in their pocket. But with points for the ICC World Test Championship up for grabs, both teams had everything to play for. Most importantly, South Africa will want to open their accounts in the tournament.

They began well with Kagiso Rabada shedding fire with the new ball. He removed Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara before Anrich Nortje dismissed Virat Kohli to make early noises. Striving at 39 for three, chips were down for India when Rohit Sharma stepped up to the task to bail his side out of danger.

He partnered Ajinkya Rahane and the duo went strong finishing the day at 224 for three with Rohit scoring another Test hundred. He remained unbeaten on 117 runs on day one and kept up his brilliant form in the next day. He soon reached his 150 while Rahane reached his 11th Test hundred.

Rohit Sharma grew stronger with each ball and soon was on the verge of his double hundred. He looked a bit edgy going to the 190s and he looked for quick runs to reach the milestone. But Rohit was left stranded at 199 as the umpires called for lunch.

He had to wait for two more overs after lunch before he struck Lungi Ngidi over the head for a six to reach the magical figures which is also his first double hundred.  Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian batsman to complete double-century with a six in Test history.

Rohit got out soon after reaching his double ton but with Ravindra Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha at the crease, India will hope to post another mammoth first-innings total.
