It was a brilliant Test for Rohit Sharma with the bat. In both the innings, the flamboyant batsman showed that he is capable of doing it for the team even in the Test format of the game as well. Hailing Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara believes Rohit’s batting style helped him to get back among the run-scorers in the Test matches.

Cheteshwar Pujara hasn’t had the best tour to West Indies. He got a couple of brilliant deliveries from West Indies bowlers, which saw Pujara walking back to the pavilion without any impact on the game. Even in the first innings, he failed to capitalise the situation.

Intent was changed – Cheteshwar Pujara

However, finally, after playing around 60 balls in the second innings, he got his form back to strike the runs on a consistent basis. At one stage, he knocked runs at a quicker rate than Rohit Sharma. Just when he looked like reaching a triple-digit score, Philander delivered a peach of the delivery to see him walking back to the hut.

”Yes, I think it was a tough pitch. I was finding it difficult to rotate the strike early. Once I was in, I knew I could accelerate. We wanted to put up a decent total by tea. Things worked out in my favour and Rohit batted really well so that helped me. I think it was the intent that changed after the drinks break.”

”I knew early on I have to get used to the pace and bounce and once I knew that I knew what kind of shots to play on the pitch. It was slower and it wasn’t easy to play my shots but I knew my impact point had to change in my shots.”

There are enough runs on the board –

Further, he went on to add saying that playing only one format will not help the individual. Pujara quoted that he had done enough work to get back among the runs. He explained how fitness has helped him to stay in touch with the game and also improve his fielding skills.

”Sometimes just playing one format affects you, but that allowed me work on my fitness and fielding, and I think that worked out well for me. Just have to take it in your stride. You need to get back to form ASAP when you play just one format. I got a couple of good balls in WI and it had to be accepted.”

”Failure makes you a better batsman and I knew I was just one knock away from getting back into form. I think there are enough runs on the board and we have 98 overs. Its still a tough pitch to bat on and it’s never easy to play on a two-paced pitch. It’ll spin out of the rough a lot on Day 5 so batting will certainly not be easy. I’ve been working a lot on my fitness and I have started recovering quite well.”

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would turn out for the Indian team on Day 5. For now, all the three results are possible, as the outfield is very quick and the rain is around the corner.
