Rohit Sharma Leapfrogs Don Bradman To Register The Highest Test Average At Home

Team India opener Rohit Sharma broke a flurry of records with his double century against South Africa in the third Test in Ranchi. In the process, the swashbuckling batter went past Sir Don Bradman to register the highest Test average in home conditions.

Virat Kohli & Co came into the final match of the tour with the series already in their pocket. But with points for the ICC World Test Championship up for grabs, both teams had everything to play for. South Africa, who had struggled in the series so far, made a good start picking three quick wickets.

But Rohit Sharma was upto the task once again bailing his side out of danger. He got a good ally in Ajinkya Rahane who showed real temperament to put the visitors on the back foot once again. After struggling against the new ball, Rohit was in his elements in the post-lunch session.

He dominated throughout day one and two to bring his first double hundred in Test cricket. Rohit has been at his best in the series as he surpassed more than 500 runs in just four innings. The Mumbai batsman also leapfrogged former legendary batsman Sir Don Bradman’s home average. Bradman had scored his home runs at an average of 98.22 whereas Rohit has bettered it with 99.84.

Rohit Sharma, in his 212 runs knock smashed 28 fours and six sixes as he toiled with the South African bowlers. Notably, all of Rohit’s centuries have come in home conditions as he also became the fastest India to scale 50 sixes in Tests.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha consolidated before Umesh Yadav’s entertaining knock helped India to post 497 for nine before declaring. The fast bowlers reaped the rewards with the new ball removing both the openers.

Mohammed Shami removed Dean Elgar while Umesh got the better of Quinton de Kock; promoted to the top of the batting order before bad light stopped play in Ranchi.
