India will begin their post World Cup journey with a three-match T20Is series against West Indies on August 3 (Saturday) in Florida. All eyes will be on Rohit Sharma, who finished as the highest run-scorer in the World Cup. The Team India vice-captain is one the verge of breaking a massive T20I record held by swashbuckling West Indies batsman Chris Gayle.

Rohit on the verge to break Gayle’s record

Rohit Sharma was at his personal best during the mega event in England last month. He scored five centuries to break the record of maximum hundreds in one World Cup, beating Kumar Sangakkara’s 2015 mark. He also equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s (6) most hundred in the history of the tournament. Rohit has looked in phenomenal touch dispatching every bowler out of the park except the semifinals where India lost to New Zealand to bow out of the World Cup.

However, post the World Cup, things have not gone right for him as an alleged rift between him and skipper Virat Kohli is out in the open. While Kohli squashed all those rumours on his pre-departure press conference, their social media activities have only fuelled the rumours. But they have the maturity not to let it impact their game as both are crucial stakeholders for India. They will have to be at their best against West Indies to clinch the series.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is on the verge of attaining another personal milestone. The Mumbai opener has the chance of going past Gayle in the list of most T20I sixes as the veteran left-hander will not be part of the West Indies T20I squad. India will be playing three T20 Internationals against the West Indies, which will provide Rohit with enough opportunities to overhaul the record. He presently occupies the third spot with 102 sixes, behind New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (103) and Gayle (105).
