India star Rohit Sharma has declined to comment much on the controversy surrounding MS Dhoni’s gloves in the ongoing World Cup. Dhoni’s wicketkeeping gloves in the World Cup game against South Africa had the the Army’s dagger insignia. And as soon as the cameras discovered it, it triggered quite a storm across the nation.

‘Balidaan’- the regimental dagger insignia of the PARA Special Forces was embossed on his green wicket-keeping gloves. Dhoni, who has been conferred an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment in 2011, had undergone training under the Para Brigade in 2015. The legendary captain had done five jumps from the parachute.

But while the entire nation praised him for his gesture, the ICC swiftly acted to deny Dhoni the permission to wear those gloves. The BCCI first backed Dhoni but had to bow down after ICC’s verdict.

“The ICC has responded to the BCCI to confirm the logo displayed by MS Dhoni in the previous match is not permitted to be worn on his wicket-keeping gloves at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019,” the cricket governing body said in a statement on Friday (June 7).

The opening batsman said that he does not much about the issue. He also said that everyone will have to wait for the match-day to see what happens.

“I don’t know what is happening with that, I have nothing to say. Maybe you’ll see tomorrow,” Rohit said on the eve of the match against Australia.

Rohit, meanwhile, will be looking to continue his fine start to the tournament when India takes on Australia. The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten century in the 4-wicket win over South Africa.

“My 122* at Southampton was a very special hundred. One of my best. Wasn’t an easy pitch. Had to be patient. It wasn’t a typical innings of me. Not my best but right up there,” said Rohit about his century against the Proteas.
