Veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh turned 38 today and the whole cricketing fraternity took to their twitter handles to wish the willy off spinner. Harbhajan who was once an integral part of the Indian team is currently out of the national selection radar for a long time. He plied his trade for the Chennai Super Kings in the recently concluded IPL. For the first time in his IPL career, Harbhajan was not part of the Mumbai Indians squad for whom he has played for the first 10 years in his international career.

He was once the skipper of the franchise before being replaced by Rohit Sharma. Under Rohit, Mumbai Indians won 3 IPL titles and Harbhajan was part of the team on all 3 occasions. Bhajji’s one-time captain in the Mumbai Indians set-up took his twitter handle and wished the off-spinner a very happy birthday. “Janamdin Mubarak bhajju pa. Have a great year ahead. Best wishes and God bless. Regards to the family @harbhajan_singh.”

Harbhajan’s career at a glance

Harbhajan was quite impressive with the ball during the Indian Premier League. He didn’t bag several wickets but was a good option for MS Dhoni in the middle overs. Bhajji didn’t go for fours and sixes quite often which eventually made a vital cog in the CSK line-up. He bagged 12 wickets which included the wicket of AB de Villiers in one of the group matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Coming back to Harbhajan, he was a class act during his playing days. In 2001, he became the 1st Indian bowler to bag a hat-trick in the longest format of the game. Bhajji bagged the wicket of Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne to achieve the feat. India went on to register a sensational come from behind victory after following on. However, Bhajji has failed to make the cut ever since Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took over the reign.

Rohit will be a vital cog for India in the England tour

Meanwhile, for India, Rohit Sharma will be a vital player, especially in the limited overs format. The tour of England starts with the opening T20I slated to be played at Old Trafford later today. India has a big chance of inflicting series victories across format. If they manage to play to their potential, England will definitely have a tough time against a quality Indian side. However, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah might haunt the visitors.
