Rohit Sharma is all set to don the captaincy hat once again as he will lead the team during the tri-series in Sri Lanka, a report in TOI suggests.

This will be the second time in his career when Rohit will lead India.

It was for the first time during the home limited-overs series against Sri Lanka when Rohit led India for the first time.

Kohli took rest for the limited-overs series.

It has been learnt that Kohli is all set to be rested again, thus, vice-captain Rohit Sharma is automatic choice to take the charge.

The reports though come as a big surprise.

Rohit has been playing international cricket right since the away series against Sri Lanka and hasn’t taken any rest.

On the other hand, South Africa tour was the comeback series for Kohli.

It was Rohit who could have been given rest but given that Ajinkya Rahane (Test vice-captain) is not a part of the T20I side, selectors do not want to look at a new captain for now.

Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya are also all set to be rested.

It was last during Windies series when Bmrah was rested while Bhuvneswar got rest during home Sri Lanka series when he withdrew due to his marriage.

He returned for ODIs but was rested for T20I series.

Hardik Pandya was recently rested for the three Test matches against Sri Lanka.

All the players were part of the side in the all the formats against South Africa.

In fact, Pandya has played each and every game of the tour while Bumrah too has missed just one T20I.

Bhuvneshwar was dropped for the second Test as a fit-again Ishant Sharma was back in the side.

The T20I tri-series will be played in Sri Lanka from March 6 to 18.

Bangladesh is the third participant in the series.

Post this tri-series, there will be a rest of more than two weeks.

IPL will be the next tournament which the players will participate in.

Post-IPL, the Indian team will kick off a new season that will only end after the conclusion of next World Cup, which will start in the last week of May.
