Team India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is currently one of the best skippers in the country. His match-reading skills are better than many and will have to play a crucial role alongside skipper Virat Kohli in the absence of former captain MS Dhoni.

Rohit’s tactical acumen is quite sharp and has the ability to take on-spot decisions. Moreover, he has won three Indian Premier League (IPL) titles with the Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma also has a good record leading India in the absence of Kohli at times. As per reports, head coach Ravi Shastri has asked Rohit to be more vocal in guiding youngsters.

In the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa, Rohit continuously guided the bowlers. He walked up to the youngsters to have a chat with them while Virat Kohli manned the boundary. A report in IANS suggests that head coach and the captain has asked Rohit Sharma to take more proactive action as T20 need more quick actions.

“Rohit has been a part of the leadership group for a while now and it is not like this is the first time that he is sharing his ideas with the players. The captain and coach trust his instincts and it is great when a senior member walks up to a bowler and suggests ways to trump the opposition batsman,” the source pointed.

Furthermore, a young cricketer who has played under Rohit Sharma said that like Virat Kohli, Rohit also backs the boys and give them the freedom to express. Notably, there were speculations of the Mumbai-born cricketer taking over the limited-overs duties from Kohli after World Cup ouster.

“You might feel a lot of things about your own capabilities. But the backing of the seniors is what helps. Be it Kohli bhai or Rohit bhai, they give you freedom to go and express yourself. They don’t impose themselves on us. Even when Rohit bhai is leading or explaining a situation on the field, he only gives you his suggestions and what he feels could work. After that, it is on you to take the call,” the player said.
