In surprising news which comes out of the Indian team, a report in TOI suggests that players like Kedar Jadhav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shreyas Iyer – all are part of the ODI squad – are suffering from one or the other injury, which can affect their chances for South Africa tour.

Jadhav, who made a comeback to the side after being dropped due to a hamstring injury, is still recovering from the issue and is currently in National Cricket Academy. Iyer too is suffering from a hamstring issue and is in NCA.

Chahal, on the other hand, is suffering from an issue in his hand and needs time to recover from it.

In a surprising move, BCCI had decided to announce the squad more than a month ago only, and now, the condition of players shows that the selectors had selected an unfit team.

Jadhav, in fact, was also selected in the Maharashtra side but he didn’t play their opening contest. All the three players will race against time to get fit for the series.

The main focus will be on Jadhav as he has not played any competitive game since October and he would be going to South Africa without any match practice. Also, it is his first tour of South Africa with the national side, which would put extra pressure on him.

Both Iyer and Chahal were in South Africa last year with the India A team but it will the first occasion when they will play outside Asia for the national team.

Should any of these three is deemed unfit, it would pose questions on selectors behind the idea of selecting the squad so early.

The limited overs series between India and South Africa starts on February 1. The series comprises of six ODIs and three T20Is.
