India’s stay in South Africa has been nothing less than forgettable so far. Virat Kohli & Co. had left for South Africa on the back of nine consecutive series wins in Tests and sitting atop the ICC Test rankings.

Following the 2-1 come-from-behind series win in Sri Lanka in 2015 which was India’s first Test series win in the Island nation after 22 years, the Kohli-led side went on to defeat South Africa 3-0, West Indies (2-0), New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1-0) and Australia (2-1). Two series followed it wins against Sri Lanka.

However, not much has gone right for the world number one Test side on the ongoing tour. Their nine-series winning run came to an end in Centurion after they lost the second Test by 135 runs. Before that, they had lost the series-opener by 72 runs.

The tour has also been forgettable for Dhawan so far. The southpaw had opened the innings in Cape Town but had to make way for KL Rahul after failing in both the innings. The southpaw scored 16 runs in each innings, as India lost the first Test.

However, the defeat and the setback of getting dropped from the playing eleven has not dampened Dhawan’s spirits, as he has vowed to come back strongly in the forthcoming third Test.

At the same time, Dhawan also admitted the defeats are a tough pill to swallow, and the teams need to learn from their mistakes.

“Dil bada dukhta hai jab results apni taraf nahi aate.. par haar bardaash karna bhi zaroori hai aur galtiyon se seekh ke tagda ban na bhi zaroori hai. Mehnat poori kari thi matches ke liye aur hamesha fakar hai apni team pe. Agle match ke liye bhi tyaari jaari hain aur poore dum se ladengey. (It hurts when the result doesn’t come in our favour. However, it’s important to accept the defeat and learn from the mistakes to become stronger. We prepared well for the matches and I always feel proud of my team. Preparations are in full swing and we’ll definitely fight back in Johannesburg),” Dhawan wrote on Instagram

Meanwhile, the third Test will get underway on January 24 in Johannesburg before the teams lock horns in six-match One-Day International series and three-match T20 International series.
