SA vs IND 2018: Second Test Indian Players Ratings

South Africa won the second Test by 135 runs at Supersport Park in Centurion. South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first in the second of the three match Test series. The South African batsmen made full use of the conditions on the first day scoring 335 runs in first innings courtesy a brilliant 94 by their opener Aiden Markram and middle order mainstay Hashim Amla who scored 82.

India went into the second Test with just one spinner in Ravichandran Ashwin and he did not disappoint as he picked up four wickets bowling around 39 overs. Ishant Sharma who made a comeback in the squad in this match also picked up three wickets in his 22 overs.

Indian captain Virat Kohli continued his rich vein of form as he scored his 21st Test century and scored a brilliant 153 in the first innings. His 153 helped Team India reach a decent total of 307 runs trailing the hosts by 28 runs in the first innings. South Africa then scored 258 in the second innings setting India a target of 287 runs in the fourth innings.

However, the touring Indian team could only manage 151 in their second innings with Rohit Sharma being the highest scorer with 47 runs. Debutant Lungi Ngidi picked up six wickets in the innings putting India 2-0 down in the three match series.

Murali Vijay- 4/10

Murali Vijay scored 46 and 9 in both the innings of the second Test. Vijay looked comfortable in the first innings but couldn’t repeat the performance in the second innings leaving India in tatters at stumps on day four.

KL Rahul- 2.5/10

KL Rahul made a comeback to the Test squad replacing Shikhar Dhawan but couldn’t do himself any good scoring 10 and 4 in both the innings respectively.

Cheteshwar Pujara- 2/10

Cheteshwar Pujara has been India’s most reliable batsman but he showed little responsibility as he was run out in both the innings.

Virat Kohli (Captain) – 7/10

Virat Kohli scored his 21st Test century in the first innings and went on to score 153 runs leading India to a comfortable position of 307.

Rohit Sharma – 4/10

Rohit Sharma score 10 in the first innings and scored 47 in the second innings being India’s top scorer and took India to a respectable total of 151.

Parthiv Patel- 4/10

Parthiv Patel replaced injured Wriddhiman Saha in the second Test. Patel dropped Hashim Amla in the first innings who went on to score 82 runs. He scored 38 runs in total in the Test.

Hardik Pandya- 3/10

Star of the first match, Pandya failed with both bat and ball in the second match as he was wicket-less in the match and scored 21 in total.

Ravichandran Ashwin- 4/10

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up four wickets in the first innings but could only pick one wicket in the second innings.

Mohammed Shami- 5/10

Shami was impressive in the second innings picking De Kock, De Villiers, Dean Elgar and Kagiso Rabada and picked up five wickets in the match.

Ishant Sharma -4/10

Ishant Sharma who made a comeback in the squad in this match picked up five wickets in the match.

Jasprit Bumrah- 3/10

Bumrah was wicketless in first innings but picked up three wickets in the second innings.
