South Africa captain Aiden Markram has been fined 20 percent of his match fee, while the rest of the players have been handed a 10 percent fine of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in Saturday’s fourth One-Day International against India in Johannesburg.

ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft imposed the fine after the Proteas were deemed to be one over short of their target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

The home team has been handed the fine following Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences. The players are fined 10 percent of the match fees while the captain is fined double.

If South Africa is found guilty of another minor over-rate breach in an ODI within the next 12 months with Markram as their captain, then he will face a suspension.

No formal hearing was needed, as Markram who was pleaded guilty to the offence after the end of the match and accepted the proposed sanction.

However, South Africa would have happily accepted the fine, as they won the fourth ODI at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. South Africa maintained their 100 percent record in the Pink Day ODI after they chased down a thrilling total in the rain affected game. The match was reduced to 202 in 28 overs after 7.3 overs due to a lightning break.

It was also Markram’s first win as the captain of the senior national side. Markram was appointed the captain in the second ODI of the series after Faf Du Plessis got ruled out of the entire series due to a broken finger.

Heinrich Klaasen who was playing his second ODI was adjudged the man of the match for scoring 43 off 27 balls.
