South African middle-order batsman Temba Bavuma has nursed a fractured ring finger according to the scans which will, unfortunately, keep him out of the field for around four weeks.
The incident took place during the 2017-18 Momentum One-day Cup when he was representing the Cape Cobras-led by Jean-Paul Duminy against Knights on Wednesday (January 17).
Earlier, in a bid to play for the domestic side Cobras Bavuma, who is an exceptional fielder, was released from the national squad after missing out on the first two Tests of the three-match Sunfoil Test series, as the Faf du Plessis side registered the series win 2-0 with one-to-go.
Pertinently, Bavuma has been the part of the Proteas squad for the ongoing Freedom Test series 2018 and the Cricket South Africa (CSA) is not going to announce the replacement for the injured player as the third and final Test will be beginning on January 24 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Batsman Theunis Bruyn has already been inducted into the squad. However, he did not have a game after South Africa’s all-round performance with the quad bowling attack which is equally supported by six batters and a spinner in the form of Keshav Maharaj.
Moreover, with Aiden Markram nursing a side strain and the promising prospect has to prove his match fitness on the eve of the dead rubber, and he is concurrently undergoing the major treatment.
After India’s campaign, the Proteas are scheduled to face Australia in the four-match Test series and the management would be expecting Bavuma - to face the top-notch team as the five-day competition will kick off on March 1.
In 27 Tests, Bavuma scored 1,259 runs at an average of 33.13 which saw him registering a solitary and nine fifties under his belt.
The right-handed batsman made his Test debut in December 2014 against Windies at Port Elizabeth.
