During the fourth day of the second Test between South Africa and the West Indies, an unfortunate incident occurred when South African spinner Keshav Maharaj suffered a freak injury that forced him to be stretchered off the field.

Keshav Maharaj had already made a significant contribution to the match by picking up a wicket in his first over, which had helped to reduce the visitors to 26/4 in their tall run chase.

However, during his third over, Keshav Maharaj challenged the umpire’s call after hitting Kyle Mayers on the pad. With the DRS working out in his favour, the spinner was naturally elated and about to celebrate his success when he suddenly twisted his ankle.

The injury appeared to be quite severe, and Keshav Maharaj was in considerable pain as he lay on the ground. Medical staff rushed onto the field to provide assistance, and it soon became apparent that he would not be able to continue playing. The South African team was clearly concerned for their teammate, and the atmosphere on the field became sombre as Maharaj was stretchered off.

After suffering the freak injury during the second Test against West Indies, the South African spinner was unable to continue playing and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. To assess the severity of his injury, he was later taken for an MRI scan, which would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the extent of his injury.

Interestingly, the previous day had seen another injury scare for the South African team, as Wiaan Mulder had to undergo a scan after sustaining a blow to his right index finger while batting. Fortunately, no fracture was detected, and Mulder was cleared to return to the field.

Despite these injury concerns, South Africa put on an impressive performance to defeat West Indies comfortably by a margin of 284 runs, thereby sealing the series 2-0.
