Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary batsman from India has congratulated Gautam Gambhir on a glorious career as the latter announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on December 4 (Tuesday).

The 37-year-old Gambhir has represented India in 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is for India scoring more than 10000 runs across formats. He made his debut in 2003 and last played for India in a Test against England in Rajkot in 2016. He retires with nine Test centuries and 11 ODI centuries to his name.

Gautam Gambhir played a key role during India World Cup campaign in 2007 and 2011 respectively. He topped the batting chart with 75 and 97 runs respectively in the finals. The southpaw in a video statement admitted that the plan of retirement was on his mind since long. However, the poor performance in IPL 2018, when he returned to Delhi Daredevils, made him decide that his time was up.

After more than 15 years of cricket for my country I want to retire from playing this beautiful game,” he said. “Despite all the aches and pains; fears and failures I won’t mind a repeat of this in my next life too. But obviously, with a few more wins for India, a few more hundreds and in the next life may be a few five-wicket hauls as well,” he added.

Since the news of his retirement flashed, congratulatory messages flooded his social media accounts. His current and former teammates and fans poured in wishes for the celebratory batsman. However, it was that of Sachin Tendulkar which stood out who drew instances from sharing the crease with Gambhir to wish him all the luck.
