Fondly known as the ‘Master Blaster’ of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar recently revealed that he thought about calling it quits after his debut Test innings against Pakistan way back in 1989 at Karachi.

Meanwhile, Pakistan had the likes of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis in their ranks. Moreover, that was one of the deadliest bowling attacks of the world cricket back then.

Sachin, who was present in a chat show Breakfast with Champions with host Gaurav Kapur, admitted that he thought his first innings will be his last. He also mentioned that he felt completely out of place.

First innings of my life, in Karachi, I thought it would be my first and last innings. In the first match, I had no idea. Waqar (Younis) bowling from one end, Wasim (Akram) going full-throttle from the other. And they had just started reverse-ball. To go there and play suddenly, I was completely out of place,” Tendulkar said in a BWC show to Gaurav.

However, Sachin, who was 16-year-old back then, sought advice from his seniors. They asked him to take some more time at the crease as this is the best attack.

I took advice from everyone in the dressing room and they told me to spend some more time on it. This is international cricket. You’re playing possibly the best bowling attack in the world. Give them that respect,” he added.

The batting legend Tendulkar showed his real class when played an outstanding knock of 59 runs in the second innings. He revealed that there was a sense of satisfaction that day.

Second innings of my life, I scored 59 runs. I got back to the dressing room and looked at myself and said, ‘You have done it,” Sachin added.

Sachin went on to score 100 International hundreds and has an array of records to his name.

Currently, he is associated with the Mumbai Indians side in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The reigning champions Indians have hit the form later in the tournament and are well in line for the playoffs. The form of Hardik Pandya has done the franchise a world of good.

The Rohit Sharma-led side must win their remaining games in a bid to register another enticing return after being dubbed as ‘slow starters’ in the domestic professional Twenty20 league.

Concluding, with Sachin Tendulkar in the backroom, Indians would be aiming to make a strong statement in the impending fixtures of season eleven.
