Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly And VVS Laxman To Continue As CAC Members: CoA chief Vinod Rai

Vinod Rai, the chief of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), on Monday said that Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman will continue as members of Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).

There were reports suggesting that the BCCI would part ways with the legendary trio due to conflict of interest.  Ganguly is currently serving as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal. The former India skipper is also a cricket expert, having his media commitments. Laxman, on the other hand, has his media commitments and is also the mentor of the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Tendulkar is ineligible for the post because his son Arjun is a member of India U-19 team. As per the new rule, a coach or selector cannot take over the job if his relative is in contention to make it to the team. In 2015, Narendra Hirwani had quit as the Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh’s selection panel as his son is a first-class cricketer for the state.

However, Rai has confirmed Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman would continue to be a part of the CAC till the new BCCI constitution is adopted and the elections take place.

“As of now, the existing CAC will continue. Our counsel had sought clarification from the court. And when they came to know the existing composition of the CAC, they gave us permission to continue with Sachin, Sourav and VVS till elections are held,” he told PTI.

This means the former India batting stalwarts would be entrusted with the duty of taking all cricket related policy decisions including the choice of two new selectors.

Presently, the role of CAC is to appoint the head coach for the Indian cricket team. In 2016, the committee named Anil Kumble as the head coach while in 2017, they handed the responsibility to Ravi Shastri.

Rai also said that CoA has not discussed the performance of the Indian team in the first two Tests against England.

“There wasn’t any discussion held on India’s performance today. Our main focus was on getting the constitution ready. Yes, India’s performance will be analysed but only once they finish the tour,” the former CAG said.
