SunRisers Hyderabad medium pacer, Sandeep Sharma has said that the postponement of this year’s IPL will surely affect his game and reduce his chances of getting into the Indian team. With the coronavirus outbreak bringing the world to a standstill, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was postponed from March 29 to April 15.

Some media reports earlier suggested that The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now looking at the October-November window for the cash-rich league. But the move can be possible only if the ICC decides to postpone the men’s T20 World Cup that is to be held later in the year.

The ICC T20 World Cup later this year in Australia might prove to be the last world cup for some players eyeing a spot in the national team. IPL 2020 was supposed to be a grand stage to increase their chances of getting into the team. However, with concerns over the cash-rich league’s future, players like Sandeep Sharma have reasons to worry.

Sandeep Sharma Worried Due To Postponement Of IPL 2020

Sharma said, “I have been keeping myself busy in bodyweight training like pushups, crunches, squats, and stair climbing. In the absence of proper gym facilities, I am also working on the swish ball for core exercises.”

“I have been trying to keep myself fit by running in my backyard garden and playing tennis cricket with my brothers,” said the 26-year-old speedster.

“The month-long break will not only affect the game of a bowler, but batsmen will also struggle to get back their touch. Now the challenge after the lockdown would be to get into shape and get ample match practice,” said Sharma.

“We have received no communication from the BCCI or the franchise about when IPL will take place. The last communication was about the postponement of the IPL till April 14,” Sharma said.

Sandeep Sharma Dreams Of Playing For India

Sharma’s India dream endures. “My long term goal is to play for India again. I got that chance in 2015 but owing to the shoulder injury, I could not retain my place. Now with a better show in the IPL and other domestic games, I want to aim for a place in Indian cricket team,” he said.

Some fresh media reports emerged on Monday suggesting that the BCCI is keen on going forward with IPL 2020 and is probing into the July window. The reports also suggest that the board doesn’t have any issue with the games taking place behind closed doors.
