The hot topic of discussion in contemporary sports is the comparison between the two modern greats of batting, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers.

Former Internationals Shaun Tait and Sanjay Manjrekar delved deep into the conversation and different in views altogether while choosing the better between the two ace batsmen representing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

While Manjrekar claimed Kohli has the edge over AB de Villiers when it comes to the longer formats of the game.

However, when it comes to franchise cricket, Manjrekar reckons the Protean trumps the Indian skipper.

I will get some personal security after the show. When it comes to Test match cricket I don’t think there is any dispute at this stage of their respective careers,”  Sanjay Manjekar told Espncricinfo.

Virat Kohli is the better batsman for me. In 50-overs cricket, Kohli is among the all-time greats. But in T20s and especially IPL, AB has the edge over Kohli,” added the renowned commentator.

Tait once sought after for his express pace, reckons Kohli is a much more difficult batter to bowl out. Citing out that AB de Villiers gives several ‘options’ to bowlers with his 360-degree play.

Virat is a lot tougher to bowl: Tait

I have unfortunately bowled to both these batsmen and unsuccessfully. And I found personally that bowling to Virat is a lot tougher. It is difficult to find a weakness with Kohli in T20s, while AB sometimes gives you options,” Tait mentioned.

Having said that, Manjrekar stated that Kohli would accept the fact that de Villiers is a more difficult batsman to bowl at, due to his unconventional stroke-making.

Virat will himself concede AB de Villiers as a better T20 batsman than him. Bowling to AB will be more difficult in pressure situations because of his unorthodox gameplay,” pointed out the Mumbaikar.

Chris Woakes said it would be exciting to rub shoulders alongside Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers earlier.

Deep into the discussion, Sanjay Manjrekar inferred that the only aspect missing in AB de Villiers game is finishing off matches for his side, which Virat Kohli is a master of.

The reason I put AB just a little over Virat is that he is a jugular who comes and destroys the bowler. But yes, he doesn’t take the team through,” concluded Sanjay Manjrekar.
