Sanjay Manjrekar Tweets Against Wrist Spinners' Selection in Tests, Gets Trolled
Updated - 10 Jan 2019, 01:33 AM
Sanjay Manjrekar believes it is very unfair that wrist spinners are getting picked for Test fold on the back of their limited-over performances. However, Manjrekar post didn’t go down well to the Indian fans.
In fact, there is a good chance that India will field chinaman Kuldeep Yadav in the first Test against England in Birmingham.
Kuldeep had breathed down the neck of the English batsmen in the limited-overs leg. Thoroughly impressed Indian selectors included the Uttar Pradesh-based spin sensation in the 18-man Test squad for the first three Tests of the gruelling five-match series in the United Kingdom (UK).
Manjrekar shares his thoughts:
Kuldeep had scalped a five-wicket haul in the first Twenty20 International against England.
Furthermore, the chinaman continued his magic as he took six wickets in the first One-Dayer – to put England on the backfoot.
However, Manjrekar is not fancied by the idea to give a chance to a wrist spinner while taking the white ball performance into consideration.
On the other hand, ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and left-arm orthodox bowler Ravindra Jadeja have also done a fine job for the Indian team in the red-ball form.
However, their performances in the foreign conditions have come under question in the past.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep has the ability to extract spin from any kind of a track. Consequently, the effective spinner will have his advantage when Indian team management will sit to select the playing XI. The first Test will commence from 1st of August.
Kuldeep has played only two Test matches in which he has taken nine wickets. He had made his debut against Australia at picturesque Dharamshala stadium. He scalped four wickets in his maiden outing.
Also, Sanjay Manjrekar took to Twitter to share his thoughts.
The former right-hander post read as, “Not liking the trend of wrist spinners getting ahead in race for spots in Tests based on their limited overs performances.”

Here is how Twitter reacts to his post:
If wrist spinners can deceive batsmen through deception in ODIs, surely test matches shud be no exception. Shadab Khan is an example in recent times.Kuldeep has to play along with Ashwin in tests.Chahal has disappointed. His googly doesn't turn enough. Tries to bowl -ve lines
