Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, on Wednesday, achieved a new milestone as captain while he was leading his team against Sri Lanka in the third ODI against Sri Lanka at the National Stadium in Karachi. Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led Pakistan to Champions Trophy glory in 2017,  became only the second wicket-keeper in history to captain his nation in 50 ODI games.

In doing so, he joined former Indian captain MS Dhoni in an elite list. Both Dhoni and Sarfaraz are the only wicketkeepers to have achieved the feat in ODIs. Sarfaraz Ahmed will be hoping that the milestone turns out to be lucky for him and his team starts delivering. Not very long ago, he was facing criticism from all around for Pakistan’s dismal show in the World Cup.

The Men in Green started the competition in a disastrous manner and although they did well towards the end, they failed to progress ahead of the group stage. His performance with the bat was equally poor. Sarfaraz Ahmed averaged 6.28 runs less than his pre-World Cup career average of 34.88. There were speculations that he would lose the captaincy but Pakistan Cricket Board decided against it.

Talking about the captaincy stats, Dhoni captained India in 200 ODIs winning 110 and losing 74 games On the other hand, Sarfaraz has 27 wins and 20 losses so far in 49 ODIs that he has captained Pakistan in. Dhoni won the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy while Sarfaraz won the Champions trophy in 2017.

Meanwhile, Pakistan are leading the three-match series against Sri Lanka 1-0 after comprehensively winning the second game. The first match of the series was washed out. This is the first ODI series in Karachi since the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009.
