Schedule Announced For ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2021

The schedule for the  ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 was announced on Tuesday. The forthcoming tournament will comprise a total of 31 matches, including the semi-finals and the final. The much-awaited ICC Women’s World Cup will get underway on January 30, 2021 in New Zealand.

It will be the fourth time New Zealand will be fully or jointly hosting the 50-over ICC tournament. Previously, they co-hosted the men’s World Cup in 1992 and 2015 in addition to hosting the women’s event in 2000.  The upcoming World Cup will run from January 30 to February 20, confirmed a statement from New Zealand Cricket.

The hosts New Zealand and four other top teams based on the ICC Women’s Championship standings will earn direct spot in the World Cup. At present, Australia, England, India and South Africa will directly qualify to the World Cup based on their ranks in addition to New Zealand who are the host.

The remaining three teams will get a second chance through the ICC Women’s Cricket Qualifier event.  In the qualifier, Bangladesh and Ireland will be joined by the winner of each regional qualifier in 2019 – Africa, Americas, Asia, East Asia Pacific and Europe.

Sports event practitioners Liz Dawson and Andrea Nelson have been appointed as chair and chief executive, respectively, of the Cricket 2021 Ltd – the independent company set up to run the ICC Women’s World Cup 2021 in New Zealand.

England are the defending champions. They had defeated India in a thrilling final at Lord’s. Australia are the most successful team, having won six titles and failed to make the final on only three occasions. England (four titles) and New Zealand (one title) are the only other teams to have won the event, while India (twice) and the West Indies (once) have each reached the final without going on to win.
