Scott Styris In Awe Of Mayank Agarwal's Exquisite Batting Technique

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has lauded Indian opener, Mayank Agarwal, for his style of batting in the toughest New Zealand conditions. Agarwal played a crucial knock of 58 runs for India in their second innings.
Sadly, for India, he was dismissed on 58 runs by Tim Southee. But, he looked the most efficient Indian batsman in the two innings that India have played in the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
Agarwal also got off to a good start in the first innings but was undone by a bouncer from Trent Boult. He scored 34 runs in the first innings and was India’s second-highest run-scorer just behind Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 46 in the first innings.
Scott Styris Lauds Mayank Agarwal’s Batting Techniques:
“For a player with limited international experience, he showed his teammates how to bat in New Zealand. Anytime he got a half volley he would stroke it away, anytime he got width he put it away and that is simple batting in New Zealand. You have to wait, when the conditions are helping fast bowlers, you wait for width and you wait for overpitched deliveries. It is that simple, it is nothing more than that. It was outstanding,” Styris told the host broadcasters at the Tea interval.
Agarwal reached his half-century but India lost Cheteshwar Pujara just on the stroke of tea as his erred in judgement and shouldered arms to an incoming delivery by Boult and lost his stumps. India ended the session on 78 for two and still were behind New Zealand by 105 runs.
After tea, Agarwal departed on the bowling off Southee. Captain Virat Kohli’s nightmare series continued as he also couldn’t make an impact and could score only 19 runs in the second innings. He went on to pull Boult and ended up giving a fine edge to the ball which was eventually caught by BJ Watling behind the stumps.
