The much-awaited ODI series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka has started on a damp note. Pakistan were set to take on Sri Lanka in the first ODI on Friday. It would have been the first ODI in the country since the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009. However, rain played spoilsport as the first game was washed out.

Soon after the setback, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the second ODI has been rescheduled from Sunday, 29 September, to Monday, 30 September. Both the board have mutually made the decision in order to allow the groundstaff to prepare the ground for the upcoming game.

Karachi has received some heavy rainfall this week. Consequently, the rain has left the outfield soggy. The groundsmen will need, at least, two complete days to make the ground fit for cricket.

“This week’s unseasonal heavy rains have forced us to review the series schedule. I am thankful to Sri Lanka Cricket as well as our host broadcasters for agreeing to amend the match schedule to ensure there are no further abandonments due to rain in what is an important bilateral FTP series for Pakistan,” said PCB director Zakir Khan.

In another development, the PCB also announced that tickets sold for the first ODI will be valid for either 30 September or 2 October ODI, while tickets sold for Sunday, 29 September, match may also be used for either the second or the third ODI. As per the PCB ticketing policy for the series, the PCB will allow refund of all tickets for the first match or allow ticket holders to use them for either the second or third ODI.

The PCB has also confirmed that ticket-holders of the second match unable to attend Monday’s match will also get full refunds. Pakistan, meanwhile, are yet to play any game since their exit from the World Cup this summer. On the other hand, Sri Lanka have already played Test and T20I series against New Zealand at home.
