Out of favour Australian off-spinner, Steve O’Keefe reckons that the Australian selectors lined through his name with a pencil but not a pen.

O’Keefe last played a Test match for Australia back in August 2017 against Bangladesh. SOK was handed a suspension post his drunken brawl at an award function following the tour.

The likes of Ashton Agar, Nathan Lyon and Jon Holland have made it difficult for O’keefe’s return in the whites for Australia. Although, his recent eight-wicket haul fueled the idea of about him writing the final chapter of his career.

There’s probably a pencil line through my name – it’s not penned at the moment. You just never know. I’m enjoying my cricket for New South Wales, it’s a great set up, led really well by our coach Trent Johnstone,” claimed Steve O’Keefe according to ABC Grandstand.

Steve ran through the Victorian batting line-up which boasted of giants such as Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell while representing NSW in the Sheffield Shield.

If that opportunity comes for Australia, that’s great. But being realistic about it, if they want to go down a younger path, then so be it. But if you get a few more ‘eight-fas’ (eight-wicket hauls), who knows,” added the off-spinner.

O’Keefe came into the limelight last year during the Border-Gavaskar series last year. He was responsible for the Australian victory at Pune where he picked up 12 wickets in the match.

That said, Steve O’Keefe, now 33-year old, believes selectors would go for a younger personnel such as Swepson or Dan Fallins.

SOK called Swepson as a 200 Test wicket-taker

Nathan Lyon is only getting better and better.  We’ve got some other good young spinners around the country – Jon Holland has been doing exceptionally well. Then the likes of Ashton Agar if you need that batting, spinning allrounder. Leg-spin, you’ve got Swepson, Dan Fallins in NSW, a couple of young exciting spinners in their own right,” concluded the spinner.
