Shahid Afridi Picks The Better Captain Between MS Dhoni And Ricky Ponting

Former Pakistan allrounder Shahid Afridi, on Wednesday, picked the better captain between Ricky Ponting and MS Dhoni. Ponting and Dhoni are two of the greatest and most decorated captains in the history of the game. They won almost everything that was there to win as captain.

Till date, Dhoni is the only captain to have all won all three ICC tournaments – 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. Under his leadership, India also attained the No.1 spot in ICC Test rankings for the very first time.

No other cricketer has captained in more international matches than Dhoni. The former India skipper led India in 332 (Including Tests, ODIs and T20Is) matches in which India won 178, lost 120, tied 6 and drew 15 matches.

On the other hand, Ponting led Australia to successive ODI World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007. The legendary batsman also has the best win percentage among all captains in the game. He led Australia in 324 games, winning 220 of those while losing just 77.

Shahid Afridi, who too has the experience of captaining in international cricket, was asked to pick one between Dhoni and Ponting while he was interacting with the fans on Twitter. The former allrounder took to Twitter to conduct a question-answer session for his followers and one of them asked him to pick the better captain.

In reply, Shahid Afridi stated that he rates Dhoni as the better captain since the former India skipper had to develop a team full of youngsters.

“I rate Dhoni a bit higher than Ponting as he developed a new team full of youngsters,” he wrote.
