The last few days have been absolutely turbulent for Shakib Al Hasan. Just a few months ago, Shakib Al Hasan was enthralling the fans with his unbelievable performances in the World Cup. The ace allrounder scored five fifties along with two centuries in just eight matches. That’s not it. His left-arm off spin fetched 11 wickets in the tournament.

But since the end of the World Cup, things have not headed in the right direction. Under his captaincy, Bangladesh lost the one-off Test against Afghanistan at home. Recently, he led a players’ strike which ended after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) accepted the demands.

Just few days after that, Shakib Al Hasan also violated the BCB’s terms and conditions after signing with a telecom company. Subsequently, BCB issued a show-cause notice to the national captain. BCB had also decided to take legal action against the player before deciding against it. And as if all these controversies were not enough, Shakib Al Hasan is now reportedly facing the prospect of being banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

According to Bangladeshi daily Samakal, Shakib Al Hasan could be banned for 18 months by the apex body of the game for not reporting an approach from a bookie. The news outlet claimed that the star was approached by a bookie before a match around two years ago. As per protocol, the players need to report those approaches to ICC. However, the Bangladesh ace decided against it before ICC became aware of the same.

Later, ICC’s anti-corruption unit talked about it with Shakib and the player went on to admit his mistake. The ace allrounder reportedly told the ICC officials that he did not inform them about the approach because he did not take the bookie seriously. The report further claimed that the ICC has already updated BCB on the matter and has also told Shakib Al Hasan not to train with the team.

Perhaps this is the reason why the star player has attended only one net session during the four-day preparation camp for the upcoming tour of India. The southpaw is also doubtful for the tour. Meanwhile, the ICC is yet to release any official update on the matter but is expected to do it soon.
