Bangladesh are sweating on the fitness of their captain Shakib Al Hasan ahead of the tri-nation series in Sri Lanka.  The series also featuring India will get underway on March 6.

The 30-year old flew to Thailand on Sunday night to seek advice from orthopedics experts on the injury to his little finger. Bangladesh Cricket Board are desperate for the allrounder’s participation in the upcoming series as they will be keen to bounce back after some dismal results in recent times.

“Shakib left for Thailand yesterday night to seek a different opinion. He has appointments with two orthopedic experts in Thailand today. He will return after that and we hope that he will leave with the squad for Sri Lanka,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said on Monday (February 27).

Shakib had injured his finger during the ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka on January 27. The injury had ruled him out of the subsequent Tests against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will open their campaign in the series against India on March 8. So with less than two weeks remaining before the series-opener, the allrounder participation is still uncertain. Bangladesh will undergo a training camp on March 2 and Shakib is expected to return to the country and join the squad. The Tigers will leave for the Island nation on March 4.

The series, called the Nidahas Trophy,  is being played to mark 70 years of Sri Lanka’s independence. The series will have six games. All the six games will be played at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium (RPS) and will start at 7 PM local time.
