Shakib Al Hasan Steps Down From MCC's World Cricket Committee

The stylish southpaw of Bangladesh Shakib Al Hasan is facing a tough time in his cricketing career. He has been banned for a couple of years, of which, one year was suspended. In the latest, he stepped down from the MCC’s World Cricket Committee following the unfortunate incident happened with him.

Shakib, the top-ranked ODI all-rounder, has been found guilty of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and was charged for not reporting approaches from an alleged Indian bookie, Deepak Aggarwal. In fact, it has happened twice. Once it was during a tri-series among Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in January 2018 and later, during the IPL in April 2018.

As a result, the ICC handed him a two-year ban (1 of which is suspended) with effect from October 29. With a year of ban to be served, Shakib can return to international cricket only from October 29, 2020. Following that, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has decided to step down from Marylebone Cricket Club’s (MCC) Cricket Committee.

The MCC World Cricket committee comprises current and former international cricketers and umpires from across the globe and meets twice yearly to discuss the prevalent issues in the game. The next meeting set to take place in March 2020.

“Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) can today confirm that Al Hasan has stepped down from his involvement with the MCC World Cricket committee,” the club stated in a press release.

“We are sorry to lose Shakib from the committee. He has made a great contribution over the last couple of years. As guardians of the spirit of cricket, we support his resignation. And also, we believe this was the right decision,” Mike Gatting, Chairman of the World Cricket committee said in an official statement.

With a year of ban to be served, Shakib can return to international cricket only from October 29, 2020. And also, it means that he will miss the Indian Premier League and T20 World Cup next year. He promised to come better and wiser to represent Bangladesh again.
