Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh all-r0under, has urged young cricketers to take approaches from corruptors seriously and immediately report it to the Anti-Corruption authorities.

The champion all-rounder made the mistake of not doing so after he approached by the bookmakers on two separate occasions back in 2018-19.

Shakib did not report the same and was duly handed a two year [one-year suspended] ban by the International Cricket Council last October. Shakib’s ban recently came to an end and in the first video that he shared after the culmination of the 12-month ordeal, he admitted to being regretful of his actions besides urging everyone not to make the same mistake.

“I regret getting suspended, and I was repentant. I shouldn’t have made this mistake. I think I will get a great lesson out of it. I would urge everyone not to make this mistake. Whenever a similar situation arises, you should abide by your responsibility according to the ICC code of conduct,” Shakib Al Hasan said in a Youtube video.

You should inform an anti-corruption officer, whether local or international. We are all well aware of the procedure. Don’t make this mistake of not informing them. Don’t take it lightly. Rather than getting influenced by it, you must report it immediately.” he added.

Shakib further revealed that he played the 2019 World Cup- where he was one of the three batsmen to score 600-plus runs- with an ICC investigation hanging over his head, which not only made it difficult for him to concentrate but it also severely affected his mental health.

“I think it was very challenging. The investigation was going on for a long time, and they were in continuous contact with me. It was an uncomfortable situation for me. It is nothing nice for any cricketer, and it’s not great to go to sleep on,” he said.

“I knew something was going to happen, although I did consider that nothing might happen. I wasn’t sure of the punishment. By the time I knew about it, you were also aware of it. The investigation period wasn’t certainly an easy one for me.” Shakib Al Hasan signed off.
