Warne picks his Ashes squad
Shane Warne called for former vice-captain Mitch Marsh to return to the team. He also believes injured paceman Jhye Richardson and controversial opener Cameron Bancroft should be in the 17-man squad for the series. Marsh has been in stellar form in the recent Australia A while Richardson also looks in line to recover from the injury he sustained just before the World Cup. Moreover, Warne has also called for the inclusion of Cameron Bancroft, who has not played a Test match since the ball-tampering scandal last year in South Africa.
Bancroft has been in excellent form in County Championship for Durham scoring 726 runs at an average of 45.37. While former coach Darren Lehmann backed Bancroft to open with David Warner, Shane Warne gave Marcus Harris a nod ahead of the controversial opener in the first Test. The legendary leg-spinner has also included debutant Alex Carey in his squad for the Ashes after his stunning outing in the World Cup. Matthew Wade also got a nod considering his good outing in recently, and Warne backed him to be in the playing for the series opener.
Injury-prone fast bowler James Pattinson also made in Shane Warne’s squad along with young batting sensation Will Pucovski. Australia who have not won an Ashes in England since 2001 will be desperate to put their best foot and bring the urn back home.
