Shardul Thakur had one of the unfortunate debuts in Test cricket. However, he might take it on any day, as receiving the maiden Test cap also matters the most. Just after bowling ten deliveries, Thakur walked off the fielding citing a tear in the leg muscle. Though he returned to the track in the second innings, the fast bowler hasn’t got the chance to bowl a lengthy spell.

Meanwhile, the latest medical reports suggest the Mumbai pacer requires at least seven more weeks of rest to attain his full fitness. It means the youngster will stay away for the primary series until the end of the ongoing year.

However, he wants to be fully fit ahead of the ODI series against Australia and also wants to cover his training during the course as well. Meanwhile, he also reveals the reason behind his walk off from the field in the Hyderabad Test as well.

“Even if I try hard, I won’t be able to get fit before the second Test in Australia [which starts on December 14]. A place in the T20Is or the Tests will be difficult. I will be eyeing the one-dayers instead. Let’s see how my rehab goes. I will continue with my training for the next seven weeks,” Shardul Thakur told The Indian Express.

“The injury from the Asia Cup was different to this one,” Thakur said. “During the Test match, I felt like my muscle was torn off. I started limping and when Virat (Kohli) asked me what was wrong, I told him it felt like a tear,” he added.

However, it would be interesting to see how things would pan for the youngster. Already, Khaleel Ahmed is making giant strides in the absence of Shardul Thakur in the team.
