The skipper of Australia in the limited-overs format of the game, Aaron Finch, stated that the southpaw Shaun Marsh is the most-underrated T20 cricketer in the world. He believes Shaun Marsh is a value addition for his side Melbourne Renegades in the ongoing Big Bash League tournament.

The 36-year-old will make his BBL debut for the Melbourne Renegades on Thursday when they meet the Sydney Thunder in Geelong. For the first time in Shaun Marsh’s 18-year cricketing career, he is playing for a domestic team other than Western Australia or the Perth Scorchers.

One of the enigmatic Australian batsmen of the modern era, Shaun Marsh’s career has been a case of incredible talent combining with unexpected inconsistency. Things got better when he acclaimed international fame with tremendous success in the inaugural IPL in 2008. Playing for Kings XI Punjab, he became the tournament’s highest run-getter with 616 runs at a staggering average of 68.44.

But, everything wasn’t same for him in the next few editions of the tournament. Eventually, he lost his place in the IPL. However, the skipper Aaron Finch hopes Shaun Marsh still got the goods to deliver for the team in the shorter format of the game. He believes Marsh will come good for Melbourne Renegades in this year’s BBL.

“It’s important we let Shaun play his natural game, and not expect anything more than what he’s done in the past for Australia and the Scorchers. Look at his IPL numbers, in the Big Bash, any time he’s played for Australia, his numbers are extraordinary,” Aaron Finch said.

“He is going to be a key player for us. He’s a huge asset to have for us and hopefully someone we can bat around and let him do his thing. I honestly think he’s the most underrated T20 player in the world,” Cricket.com.au quoted Finch as saying.
