Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have extended their support to suspended skipper Shakib Al Hasan. Notably, International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Bangladesh captain for two years, with one year suspended, for failing to report multiple approaches made to him by bookies.
Shakib admitted to all the charges under the ICC Provisions. He also accepted the sanction with the ICC instead of in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing. After satisfying with all the conditions pertaining to the suspension part, the no 1 all-rounder will be free to resume cricket from October 29, 2020.

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan has got the backing of his board and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Reacting to the turn of events, Hasina said there is nothing much they can do about it. But vouched to stand by the tainted cricketer during these tough times.
“It’s clear that Shakib has made a mistake and he’s realised that. There’s nothing much the government can do about the ICC’s decision but BCB will stand by him,” PM Hasina told bdnews24.com.

Meanwhile, BCB President Nazmul Hasan, who has been targetting Shakib Al Hasan over his attitude in the last week, also softened his stance post the verdict. Hasan said that they will stand by him during this time and the doors will open for him once the ban ends.
“We hope he will come back as a better and wiser cricketer and serve Bangladesh for many more years when his sanction will be over.
“During the suspension, the BCB will continue to support his efforts at returning to cricket. The BCB respects the ICC’s decision and shares similar sentiments against corruption in cricket,” BCB said in a statement.
