Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are undoubtedly two of the most celebrated opening batsmen of the present era in limited-overs cricket. The fact that they share a good understanding amongst themselves enables them to nail some mammoth run-chases with ease. Amid that, Rohit Sharma seemed to have some grievances, which he shared with David Warner during a live session on Instagram a few days ago. Reportedly, Dhawan has responded to the same.

Shikhar Dhawan became a point of discussion for both Rohit and Warner during their friendly chat over social media. It is to be noted that Dhawan has opened the innings in the IPL with David Warner for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rohit pointed out that Dhawan would never face the first ball of the match. In response, his Australian counterpart brought into attention that Dhawan would take a single off the final delivery of every over.
Shikhar Dhawan had a session of his own with former bowling all-rounder Irfan Pathan, wherein he responded to such indictments. The 34-year old remarked that although he didn’t like to face the first ball, he would talk to his partner about it. If Dhawan’s partner isn’t comfortable enough, he would readily take the strike.
The southpaw further clarified by taking an example of the year 2013 when Shikhar made his comeback. Since it was his return game, Rohit started and the sequence continued from thereon.
“I don’t like taking strike on the first ball. If my partner is a youngster, I will have a word with him and if he’s not comfortable to take strike, I will obviously take it. In 2013, it was my comeback game when Rohit started as the opener, so Rohit took strike as it was a comeback game, so it became a pattern and continued for most of the games.” Dhawan said as quoted by Times Now.
Shikhar Dhawan On Warner’s accusations:
The flamboyant left-handed batsman hit back at the Aussie’s point of taking a single off the last ball of an over by denying doing anything like it intentionally.
“David Warner was saying that I take a single on last ball of the over, I disagree to that.” the Delhi-born batsman stated.
