Even before making his debut for Team India, Shivam Dube was compared to none other than the legendary Yuvraj Singh. Before the first T20I against Bangladesh, the BCCI posted a video of Dube batting in the nets. Impressed with the stroke-play, the fans were quick to draw comparisons between Dube and Yuvraj Singh.

The allrounder earned his maiden India call-up for the series after impressing for Mumbai and India A. With Hardik Pandya sidelined due to injury, India are more than likely to play the uncapped player in the first game.

Dube first came into the limelight in 2018 after hitting five successive sixes in a Ranji Trophy match against Baroda. Royal Challengers Bangalore then splashed a whopping Rs 5 crore at the IPL Auction 2019 to secure his services. In 2018, the 26-year-old batsman slammed 364 runs in five innings in Ranji Trophy at an astonishing average of 91. He had also picked up 12 wickets at an average of just over 16.

He did not have a memorable campaign in the IPL as he managed to play just four of the 14 games. But it did not stop the selectors from including him in the India A side and Shivam Dube totally justified the faith shown in him. The left-handed batsman impressed with two fifties in four innings for India A against West Indies A in the Caribbean, with an average of 60 with the bat.

Only time will tell how Dube’s international career pans out. But for the time being, Yuvraj Singh believes the youngster should not be compared to him. Yuvraj Singh also mentioned that Dube still need to work on his game and also cast doubts over whether the coaches will be able to do that or not.

“Let the guy start his career first, and after a while when he reaches a certain level, then you start comparing him with someone. I don’t think he should be compared to me. He should make his own name. He has the talent,” Yuvraj Singh said.

“There are a couple of things that need to be worked on his game. I am not sure if they will be able to identify where he is making the mistakes. Vikram Rathour is the batting coach, he needs to identify where he is making mistake.

“He (Rathour) is not someone who has played T20s, so I am not sure if he can tell what are the areas that he needs to work on. Give him some time and then expect results. Don’t expect results instantly,” he added.
