Pakistan batting all-rounder Shoaib Malik suffered the delayed concussion after being hit on the head by Colin Munro’s throw on Tuesday (January 16) in Hamilton.

The unfortunate incident happened during the ongoing fourth One-day International between hosts New Zealand and Sarfraz Ahmed-led Pakistan when Malik was batting alongside Mohammad Hafeez.

“Shoaib was assessed by the match doctor and myself,” VB Singh, who’s the physiotherapist for Pakistan, was quoted as saying by Cricinfo.com

It’s pertinent to mention that 36-year-old Malik, who was batting on one, received a throw from Munro while making the ground which further saw the ball raced towards the padded-up boundary line which also saw him clutching his head.

Moreover, when Malik was hit on the back of his head, he was not donning the helmet when Kane Williamson had already introduced the spinners.

After the delayed concussion, Malik did not make the appearance on the field when the Black Caps were batting.

“As advised by the match doctor and Pakistan team physiotherapist, he will not be taking any further part in the match,” Singh maintained.

In an attempt to scamper for a run, it was Hafeez, who sent back Malik before the blow to the head saw the latter collapsing to the ground while writhing in pain.

When Malik laid to the ground he had already faced four deliveries when Pakistan’s score was 125 for four in 31.2 overs.

Considering the spirit of the game, New Zealand gloveman Tom Latham was the first, who attended Malik.

Following the on-field checkup from the team doctor, Malik was dismissed on six off eight balls by Kane Williamson when Mitchell Santner completed the simple catch.”

“He did not have any symptoms of a concussion and was able to carry on playing. After getting out, he was reassessed and was showing delayed concussion signs. He is doing well and is resting,” Singh said of Malik.

Malik returned to the pavilion when Pakistan score was 130 for five in 32.2 overs which further saw Pakistan post 262 on board in 50 allotted overs following some clean-hitting from Hafeez, who was the top-scorer for Pakistan innings.

Concluding, this also served as a remained for the professionals in the game to don the safety gears.

The batting all-rounder Hafeez scored 81 off 80 balls, as his innings included five boundaries and four sixes.
