Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was one of the few batsmen in the world, who enjoyed a dream run before the COVID-19 crisis forced the sporting events to suspension. Amid the lockdown, cricketers are spending as much time as they can in remaining fit. During an interaction, The right-handed batsman spoke on various aspects, especially the road back to the resumption of the sport.

Several sporting events have currently either been suspended or called off indefinitely. The Indian Premier League (IPL), which was supposed to begin on 29th March, is also postponed indefinitely. The global health crisis has forced people to stay indoors, endangering lives and already claiming plenty of them. India alone has over 80000 cases, and more than 2000 people have passed away.

Shreyas Iyer cannot wait to go out to the park and resume from where he left. He went on to say that India is a cricket-crazy country, and it is one sport that can motivate people in masses, inculcate a positive attitude amongst the public, and finally keep them entertained.

“I would be very keen to go out and play because that is what I am waiting for. You do realise that cricket is a religion in this country and if we go out and play and it is there for people to view on television, it will be a huge positive as things will start moving towards normal and people will also be entertained.” the 25-year old stated as quoted by News18.

In an interview for Kolkata Knight Riders, Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins didn’t support the idea of cricket resuming if saliva or sweat couldn’t be applied on the ball. The ongoing coronavirus, being very contagious, can spread through a person’s droplets with ease.

The Mumbai batsman is entirely in line with Cummins and mentioned that it’s crucial to maintain the ball and there’s no point in playing if that couldn’t be done.

“Definitely, he is talking as a bowler. From the bowler’s perspective it is really important to swing the ball as I said. It is important to maintain the ball and if that isn’t there, then there would be no point of playing.” Shreyas Iyer added.
