Team India banked on an all-round effort from its players to win the three-match series 2-1 from 0-1 down against Bangladesh. Shreyas Iyer, who played valiant knock with the bat admitted that they were under pressure at the halfway of the game but a pep talk by skipper Rohit Sharma changed the atmosphere in the dressing room.

The Bangla Tigers got off to a brilliant start during their chase. However, a few wickets and the whole team was under the pressure as they managed to secure only 144 runs in pursuit of 175 posted by India. Deepak Chahar registered the best-ever T20I figures returning with six for seven despite Mohammad Naim’s swashbuckling 81 to seal the game.

However, India were under pressure at one stage which Bangladesh got off to their chase swiftly. But Shreyas Iyer revealed that a pep-talk from stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma changed the confidence around the whole team.

“Yeah, we were feeling the pressure. We know they are a good side and there is no team that you can underestimate in the shortest format. And in the previous two games we saw that they played a mesmerising brand of cricket,” Iyer told reporters.

“We were going little lethargic at the start, but once they started going, Rohit recalled all players inside the circle, he gave us a pep talk and after that, all of us got determined to win the match,” he added.

Previously, put to bat first, unlike the last match, India lost their openers early today, but it was the two youngsters – KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer who set things up for the Men in Blue. Rahul played like a surgeon in the powerplay, while Iyer, who was dropped for zero, turned out to be a hero, scoring 62 runs that included five massive sixes.

Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul were in the firing line but bounced back when India needed the most. Manish Pandey’s late blitz helped India post 174 runs after a faulty start in Nagpur. Iyer credited himself for changing the face of the whole game hitting three consecutive sixes.

“Yes, I would say that. The over in which I hit three sixes changed the momentum of the match. Otherwise, we would have got 150 and that would have been a really tough total to difficult on this wicket. Yeah, I would give my self a credit. It was important for one of the top three batters to stay at the crease till the 15th over,” Iyer concluded.
