Shreyas Iyer Takes A Dig At His On-Field Communication With KL Rahul

Youngster Shreyas Iyer extended his good form as India beat the hosts yet again, this time by 7 wickets. Iyer came into the crease at the fall of Virat Kohli’s wicket in the 6th over. His 86-run stand with opener KL Rahul turned out to be decisive. The visitors chased the target with 15 balls to spare.

Iyer hit three sixes and a four en-route to a 33-ball 44. Rahul, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 57*. The Kiwis failed to put up a good score on the board as the Indian bowlers kept them under the shackles. The boundaries dried up after a certain stage and they couldn’t recover. However, India looked comfortable with the nature of the track and milked the opposition bowlers at will.

Post the victory, Iyer said chasing a modest target makes things a little easy. “It makes you feel a little composed while chasing 130 because at the back of the mind, you know that you have to maintain a run-rate of about 7.”

“And at the same time, you curtail the risk as well. It was very important for us to keep at the back of the mind that we need to keep rotating the strike and when the time comes, we need to take charge on the bowlers.” Iyer told the reporters.

Meanwhile, the Kiwis once again missed an opportunity of running out Rahul. The running between the wickets between Rahul and Iyer left a lot to be desired and he did address the issue albeit on a lighter note. “It was important not to lose a wicket. The conversation with Rahul was going well apart from the running between the wicket. I am thankful to be part of such an amazing team.” he added.
