India’s prodigy batsman Shubman Gill has credited India A and Under-19 coach Rahul Dravid for his career transformation. Gill has attracted the eyeballs with his game and batted at the top of his game in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy where he scored 790 runs for Punjab. However, there is always a huge gap to fill between the domestic circuit and International level.

That is where the role of Rahul Dravid comes into play. The veteran of Indian cricket has flowered the young players and he has been a perfect gardener for the young players. Shubman Gill had a stellar Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand where he was awarded the Man of the series. In fact, the young batsman has shown the promise to be the future of Indian cricket.

He has an abundance of talent under his belt and also received high praise from Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, Gill will like to keep improving himself at the topmost stage. Gill said life has changed on its head in the recent past.

“Life’s changed a lot in terms of the experience I am gaining, even at a higher level. Early last year, when I was preparing for the under-19 World Cup, I would think if I do well here, it may lead to more opportunities. But I hadn’t imagined it would all happen so soon,” said Gill as quoted by Times of India.

In fact, Gill played under the tutelage of Rahul Dravid in the Under-19 team. The young batsman once again played under his favourite teacher while playing for India A against New Zealand A, where he once again impressed.

“Rahul sir has helped a lot in this transition. Since he has been through this phase himself, he is fully aware of what an 18 or a 19-year-old youngster needs to do to adjust to higher levels of cricket. One needs to match the highest standards in all aspects of the game, so he helped me realize all that. Besides, I also learnt how to handle success, how to handle failures by talking to him”.

Meanwhile, the shadow India A tour has also helped the India National Cricket Team. The A tours have helped in serving as the bridge between the domestic circuit and International level.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill received his Indian cap from MS Dhoni. Gill said it was amazing to receive his maiden cap from Dhoni, whom he has idolized from childhood days.

“It was an overwhelming experience. When Ravi sir told me ‘aap agla match khel rahe ho’, it was a surreal feeling. To take the field with players whom you have idolized since childhood and to get the India cap from Mahi bhai, was amazing,” he concluded.

Gill has impressed with his skills. However, he didn’t get off to an ideal start in his International career.
