Smriti Mandhana Confident About England Tour

India women’s cricket team vice-captain and opening batter Smriti Mandhana said the Women in Blues will continue to perform at an excellent level in their upcoming tour of England. 

India missed the berth by a whisker in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 knockout stage and exited from the group stage with just three wins and four losses. India lost to the SENA countries in the marquee event. 

India bagged silver medal in cricket at CWG 2022

The Indian team under Harmanpreet Kaur finished second at the podium in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, clinching the country’s first medal (silver) in cricket.

India defeated Pakistan, Barbados and England to reach the final of CWG 2022.  Their only two defeats in the tournament came at the hands of Meg Lanning-led Australia.

The Commonwealth silver medalists are set to tour England once again to play three T20 Internationals and as many ODI matches against the home side. 

The tour begins with the T20I series on September 10 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. The second T20I will be played on September 13 in Derby followed by the final match on September 15 in Bristol. 

The three ODI matches between England and India women teams will be played in Hove, Canterbury and London between September 18 and September 24. 

The year 2022 has been good for the women’s cricket team, and we are expecting to continue this momentum with the upcoming India tour of England,” Mandhana said in an official release.

“We are elated after winning the silver medal in the Commonwealth Games, we will look to replicating our success in the upcoming series as well,” she mentioned further. 

The ODI series will be the last hurrah for India’s bowling icon Julian Goswami whose international career spans for two decades.
