Sonia Gandhi Lauds India Colts Post World Cup Win

Chairman of UPA, Sonia Gandhi, congratulated the Indian U19 team after their recent success in the World Cup held in New Zealand.

The young Indian team was showered with accolades and praises after they brought the cup home after six years.

The U19 team was led by 18-year old Mumbai prodigy, Prithvi Shaw and mentored by Rahul Dravid. The men in blue remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, as they defeated all teams they faced by massive margins.

Stalwarts of the game such, as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and many others took to Twitter to congratulate the teenagers.

Prominent personalities such actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also lauded the efforts of the Indian team.

“The nation’s rich cricketing tradition had yet again been upheld and it’s a matter of satisfaction that the young boys showed great promise of carrying forward the legacy,” read a statement from Sonia Gandhi.

India defeated the Australians in the finals of the prestigious world championship by eight wickets, thanks to a flamboyant ton from opener Manjot Kalra.

The likes of Harvik Desai, Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw offered their support to Kalra during India’s chase. Kalra was named the man of the match while Gill received the man of the series title for the 378 runs he amassed during the tournament.

It was the pace triplet of India featuring Ishan Porel, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi which hogged all the limelight during the tournament with the help of their pace which caused havoc in the opposition’s batting line up. The Indian team beat Zimbabwe, and Papua New Guinea by a massive margin of ten wickets during to league stages to prove their dominance in the tournament.
