Bangladesh opening batsman and a part-time medium pacer Soumya Sarkar will join the team in order to bolster thei side for the T20I series against West Indies. Sarkar wasn’t part of the Test squad or the ODI squad. He hasn’t been in the best of forms which led to his ouster from the national team. He is an effective top order batsman and can play the big shots on a consistent basis. Sarkar is a stylish player and his inclusion will surely bolster the team.

Along with Sarkar, another top-order batsman Ariful Haque has also returned to the T20 squad. He was earlier appointed as the skipper of the Bangladesh A team for the tour of England. He will join the Bangladesh senior squad only after the conclusion of the third ODI against Ireland A on that particular tour. The pair as per schedule will leave Dhaka tonight. Meanwhile ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza will leave the Caribbean along with Nazmul Hossain and Anamul Haque. They are slated to fly off tomorrow.

“They are expected to leave tonight,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin was quoted as saying by the Cricbuzz on Tuesday (July 24). ”Both of them are well placed in our Twenty20 set-up so preferred to send them as they also have acclimatise with the conditions,” he added.

Bangladesh played poorly in the Test series

Bangladesh suffered a humiliating 2-0 whitewash at the hands of Windies in the Test series. They were quite poor in all 3 departments of the game. Some of the senior players missed the series which proved to be critical in the end. Bangladesh was beaten all ends up. It also prompted the Bangladesh Cricket Board to make participation in domestic cricket mandatory for senior players in order to be eligible for the national team.

The visitors will meet in a three-match T20 series following the conclusion of the ODI series. Bangladesh currently lead the series by a 1-0 margin. They won the 1st ODI quite convincingly by 48 runs riding on a brilliant century by Tamim Iqbal. It was a much-needed victory for Bangladesh especially after losing the two Tests inside three days.
