BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has reacted to the videos of Rohit Sharma batting in the nets despite being advised by Team India head coach Ravi Shastri against rushing his comeback from the hamstring injury. The India opener is out of action since playing against Kings XI Punjab on October 18 because of a left hamstring tear.

However, his injury has caused a lot of confusion and several former cricketers have called for clarity on the same. The reason behind the confusion is the videos and photos posted by Mumbai Indians right after Team India’s squads were announced for the tour of Australia.

Last week, Rohit Sharma was not named in any of the squads for the tour of Australia due to the injury. But minutes after the squads were announced, Mumbai Indians raised a number of eyebrows by announcing that their skipper has resumed batting training in the nets.

Few days later, India head coach Ravi Shastri revealed that Rohit Sharma’s medical report stated “he could be in danger of injuring himself again” and advised the batsman not to rush his comeback. However, the opener was seen in the nets once again as he ignored Shastri’s advice.

With the recent incidents making the injury case more confusing, Sourav Ganguly has given his views on Rohit Sharma’s decision to bat in the nets. The former India skipper echoed Shastri’s sentiments as he stated that Rohit might end up injuring himself again by rushing his comeback.

Sourav Ganguly advised the star batsman to be cautious with his injury. The BCCI president hoped that Rohit would understand the ongoing IPL and the Australia tour won’t be the last assignments in his career.

“Yeah, you don’t want him to get injured again. He has a hamstring tear and it will get ruptured again. It will then get longer for him to come back. But yes, there are people working with him,” Sourav Ganguly told PTI.

“The Mumbai Indians physio is working with him. The Indian physio [Nitin Patel] is there. Rohit himself knows that he has got a long career ahead and it’s not just this IPL or next series for him. I am sure he is mature enough to do what is best for him.

“I can tell you that things you do easily at the practice might be a bit of struggle during a match situation. The muscles react differently to pressure situations,” he added.

India are scheduled to tour Australia for three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests. The tour will commence with the ODI leg on November 27 while the Test series will start on December 17. Team India would leave for Australia on November 12 from the UAE after the completion of the ongoing IPL.
